I saw The Vagina Monologues performed several years ago in Barbados where I live. Like most people, I was a bit put off by the title, not knowing anything about the play. The rave reviews spread by word of mouth. It was scheduled for a weekend performance in a small theater. At first the women were talking about it, telling their men friends and partners. Then the men were talking about it. It moved to a hall that seats 1000 people and ran for weekend after weekend, with a huge portion of the adult male and female population seeing it. You'll laugh, you'll scream, you'll cry tears of horrified despair. This is a powerful serious of monologues culled from real life interviews of several hundred women from around the world in which they tell their true stories of violence and abuse as girls and women at the hands of men, lovers, and society. It will move you to the core. I defy anyone to see it without shedding some tears. In the end, you'll understand why the language is necessary to convey the deep meanings.
